Hotel details
Hospitality, peace, beauty, mysticism, and spirituality converge in the magical and mysterious kingdom of Bhutan, the land of happiness. Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary stands as the sole 5-star wellness resort, presenting an all-inclusive wellbeing concept.
Where you are going...
The Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary is located high in the beautiful Neyphu valley in the kingdom of Bhutan in the Himalayas. This rarely visited gem sits between China and India and is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, full of green forests, ancient traditions and knowledge. This is the land of happiness. Of mysticism, rituals and traditions. The population lives a traditional life, observing centuries old customs.
Why you’ll love it...
The government and the people in this region actively safeguard nature and traditions, allowing tourists to enter in a highly controlled manner. It is widely acknowledged that Bhutan's gross national product is happiness. Consequently, Bhutan is not merely a holiday destination, but rather a spiritual travel destination that attracts only a select few individuals. The spiritual essence becomes immediately apparent upon entering the courtyard through the imposing red gate of Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary. Here, you are not regarded as a tourist; instead, the team fully embraces you as a part of the Zatsang, which translates to "family" in Bhutanese. Noteworthy individuals such as writers, singers, historians, and philosophers from Bhutan and beyond, who are regular guests at the resort, provide an opportunity for meaningful exchanges of thoughts. Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary operates as a wellness resort with a comprehensive all-inclusive well-being concept. This encompasses holistic activities, lectures, treatments, outdoor activities, walks, excursions, healing programs, meals (excluding alcoholic drinks), and even laundry services—all included in the overall price.
Wellness, Spa and Health
“To have a restful mind is to relax in your nature.” – The Restful Mind philosophy, based on the teachings of His Eminence Gyalwa Dokhampa, flows throughout daily life at the Sanctuary. The team hopes that guests leave with lasting positive change and go on to start a new chapter in their daily lives at home.
There are two resident traditional Bhutanese doctors at the resort who will be your wellbeing guides, designing a personalised plan for you. The spa has 6 treatment rooms for unique healing treatments such as Kunye (signature Bhutanese massage), Moxibustion (traditional Chinese medicine therapy) and Numtsug (signature hot oil compression). In addition, you can make use of a steam room and sauna for men and women, 2 traditional hot stone baths with individual treatment beds, a gym, heated indoor pool and a yoga and meditation room. For a totally different way to relax, you can make supervised use of the ceramic/art studio.

What’s on the Menu
The Culinary Team cooks in an open kitchen using local produce to create delicious varied dishes. The ingredients are fresh from the resort’s own garden or greenhouse and from local farms, with an emphasis on seasonal vegetables, fruit and fresh herbs. The kitchen will customise your food if there are certain things you are intolerant of. During the mornings, you have the option to assemble your own breakfast and enjoy it in the comfort of your room if you prefer.
We love
- The eastern signature treatments such as the Kum Nye (Tibetan massage) and Numtsug (compression with hot oil).
- The use of wild therapeutic herbs and spices in the spa. Bhutan has a strong tradition of herbal medicines and is the ‘land of therapeutic herbs’.
- The walk to the Tiger’s Nest: a stunning monastery that looks as though it’s hanging onto the rockface of a steep cliff. Not an easy hike - 5 hours there and back – along a steep rocky path and at height, so take your time! Once at the top, breathe in the fresh air and hang your prayer flag from the cliff, enjoying views over the valley.
Good to know
- For all stays in Bhutan, there is an obligatory Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of $ 200 per person per night which is levied by the Government of Bhutan. This fee is used to upgrade infrastructure and services, elevate tourists' experiences and maintain carbon-neutral tourism.
- From 2022 onwards, visitors to Bhutan can arrange their own trip but have to make use of an official registered guide and hotel. The costs for a car, driver, guide and entry fees will be added to the hotel costs. Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary has an in-house travel agency to arrange this all for you.
- In return for this price, you will get the unique experience of visiting an authentic and unspoiled country, free from tourist coaches careering in and out of special sites. Here, you can really immerse yourself in the traditional local culture and find peace among the unspoiled nature
