Wellness holiday in Malta

The Maltese islands are an ideal destination for both active and relaxing holidays. Nowadays, wellness is a broad term and encompasses much more than a massage or trip to the sauna. An hour of active exercise, reading an inspirational book and meditating as you gaze out onto sea also support wellbeing. In Malta, there are many more things to add to this list: the warm climate, Mediterranean light and sea air are also wonderful for recharging those batteries.

Gozo and Malta offer countless outdoor pursuit opportunities for both beginners and the more experienced. Options include lovely walking tours, mountain bike tracks, rock climbing, paragliding or a round of golf on one of a number of stunning courses. The landscape and mild climate on these islands are in fact so ideal for practising outdoor sports that both Malta and Gozo host numerous sports teams’ winter training programmes.

Maltese cuisine is borne out of ‘encounters’ between the islanders and the many nations that ruled over them throughout the centuries. The result? A marriage of the flavours of various Mediterranean cuisines. Whilst there are a great many speciality restaurants on the islands, many others serve dishes typical for the region and season. Try lampuki pie (fish pie), rabbit stew, bragioli (pork stuffed with beef and olives), kapunata (Maltese ratatouille) or ‘widow’s soup’ featuring a circular slice of gbejniet (sheep’s or goat’s cheese). Most counters will have bigilla on show: a thick paté of broad been and garlic.

Malta is relatively unknown as a wine producing country. But its home-grown wines are superb. We recommend doing a wine-tasting tour at one of the larger vineyards. Depending on the time of year, you will be shown part or all of the production process – from the first fermentation through to the aging process.

Puurenkuur offers modern, high-quality and luxury 4* and 5* wellness resorts and hotels in Malta and Gozo. Many of these are adults-only, meaning that peace and quiet are guaranteed. The hotels have extensive spa- and fitness facilities. A number of hotels offer special packages featuring specialist treatments such as Ayurveda cures (only in Gozo). The islands of Malta and Gozo offer relaxation at the highest level.

Ayurveda hotel in Gozo

Are India and Sri Lanka a little too far for you to travel? No problem. Ayurveda is hot! That’s why more and more spa & wellness hotels in Europe are offering Ayurveda cures with individualised treatments, a dosha-specific diet and daily yoga and meditation. The knowledge, experience and products (and sometimes even the Ayurveda practitioners and therapists themselves) are sourced from Asia. The Ayurveda centre at the hotel in Gozo is led by a doctor and therapists hailing from the Indian province of Kerala – the birthplace of Ayurveda. The oil, herbs and all other attributes used in the treatments come from the same region.

Thalasso holiday in Malta

Thalasso derives its name from Greek mythology, namely the sea goddess. Which is apt, as the ancient Greeks and Romans were well aware of the healing properties of the sea. Modern science built on centuries of wisdom to develop thalasso therapy. A thalasso spa harnesses all of the goodness the sea has to offer, such as sea air, seawater, algae, mud and sand. Thalasso therapy has a healing effect on the human body and can help prevent all kinds of ailments.

Adults-only luxury wellness hotels

Adults-only resorts are not open to children. These hotels or spas are specially designed for adults seeking peace and quiet, luxury and a relaxing wellness holiday. Such adults-only hotels are also ideal for solo travellers looking to enjoy some undisturbed me-time. Are you looking for an adults-only hotel in Malta? Get in touch!
