With its idyllic setting, it offers easy access to notable destinations like the capital city Colombo and the historic city of Galle, both just a short drive away. Colombo Airport is conveniently reachable within approximately 1.5 hours.

The driveway unfolds seemingly without end until the colonial-style Heritance Ayurveda Maha Gedara reveals itself, adorned with white columns and arches emerging gracefully from behind the lush tropical greenery. Offering views of the Indian Ocean and a feeling of being nestled within a protected nature reserve, the Ayurveda retreats here boast exceptional quality. An intriguing aspect is the arts and crafts center where local residents engage in modeling, weaving, painting, and sculpting traditional creations, which are then available for sale.

Wellness, Spa and Health

After undergoing a comprehensive renovation in 2011, Maha Gedara has transformed into an authentic Ayurveda resort. The majority of guests visit with the intention of participating in a program, and the resort boasts a well-regarded Ayurveda center led by two experienced doctors. A team of 14 therapists is available to provide personalized treatments. On average, a program includes four to five treatments per day, offering guests a holistic and rejuvenating Ayurvedic experience.

What’s on the Menu

The culinary experience at Maha Gedara is deeply rooted in Ayurveda, featuring dishes made exclusively with locally sourced vegetables and herbs. The food is not only exceptional but is also presented in buffet style, accompanied by informative cards indicating the dosha type (body type) each dish is suitable for, empowering guests to make personalized choices. A couple of times a week, the chefs treat guests to a flavorful three-course meal. It's important to note that Maha Gedara abstains from serving coffee, black tea, or alcohol, providing herbal teas as an alternative beverage option.

Rooms

In total, there are 64 rooms at Maha Gedara, categorized into three types differing in size and luxury. Despite the variations, all rooms are elegantly decorated in a colonial style. Each room is equipped with a fan and air conditioning, a telephone, a minibar with water, a safe, a mosquito net, and a balcony or terrace. Notably, there are no televisions in the rooms. The bathroom amenities include a shower, hairdryer, toilet, as well as a bathrobe and slippers, ensuring a comfortable and stylish stay.

Het hotel is precies wat wij hadden verwacht een kuur oord, rustig aan het strand, erg attente service en bediening, prima kamers en de behandelingen erg prettig. De gasten komen voornamelijk uit Duitsland, Japan en Oost Europa (Rusland)
