The health benefits of Fango therapy in Italy

Given all of those natural springs, it isn’t surprising that Italy has a long tradition of Fango therapy. Fango combats inflammation and aids conditions affecting the joints. Fango (or mud) promotes good circulation, relaxes the muscles and relieves joint pain. The Italian word Fango translates as ‘mud’. The mud itself is a mixture of clay and organic matter, such as algae, which is heated by thermal waters from volcanic springs under the ground, the reason why the mud is so full of minerals. The Fango is unique to Italy, and the mineral composition differs per thermal spring. In a traditional Fango treatment, hot fango (approx. 38 – 42°C) is applied to the skin. The mud feels pleasant and is relaxing. It is rinsed off after 30 – 45 minutes and is followed by a hydrotherapy bath. A massage could be the finishing touch or a dip in the thermal pools.

Italian medical spas

A medical spa is a hotel or resort that combines traditional spa services with medical procedures to provide a comprehensive approach to health, wellbeing and beauty. The difference between a ‘normal’ health resort and a medical spa, is that a medical spa is supervised by a medical director. Medical spas typically offer a variety of treatments and services, including impressive, technology-based treatments to get a true understanding of your health and wellbeing, through a variety of medical tests that can reveal which treatments, activities and nutrition would be most beneficial for you. Apart from those medical tests, a medi-spa also offers a wide range of traditional spa treatments such as massages or facials. Some medi-spas offer cosmetic treatments, such as injectables, laser treatments and other cosmetic treatments. A medical spa is always supervised by a medical director who is a licensed physician. The director is responsible for overseeing the medical and spa treatments, ensuring that all treatments are performed safely and that all staff members are properly trained and licensed. The medical director may also be involved in developing treatment plans, performing medical consultations and overseeing the use of medical-grade equipment.

Traditional Chinese Medicine in Italy

Some resorts specialises in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Centuries old, this health philosophy addresses the root cause of ailments and disease instead of tackling the symptoms alone. In addition, the doctors and therapists draw on western knowledge, methods and medicines.TCM is one of the oldest forms of medicine or medical science in the world. Despite its age, TCM has always acknowledged the role of stress. TCM considers stress to be the main cause of many illnesses. This makes TCM a particularly apt method for resolving modern-day stress-related issues and problems, such as tension, anxiety, sleep problems, digestive issues, obesity, etc. Examining these from a Chinese medicine perspective, they can be eliminated at the deepest level. And what better time for it than on a health holiday? You’ll stay at a luxury health or wellness resort, swathed in peace and quiet, relaxation and comfort. This gives you the time and space you need to focus on the treatment of your complaints and ailments. A Traditional Chinese Medicine wellness holiday will give your health a great boost.
