Where you are going...

The southern Indian province of Kerala, renowned as the birthplace of Ayurveda, provides the ideal setting for an Ayurveda retreat. Moreover, Somatheeram's prime location on the sandy beach of Kovalam, within a tropical garden, offers a wonderfully relaxing and beautiful atmosphere. The resort is conveniently situated approximately a 45-minute drive from Trivandrum airport.

For the past three decades, Somatheeram has been steadfastly dedicated to the practice of Ayurveda. The resort houses an Ayurveda academy and herb garden for the cultivation of its medicinal herbs. It has earned numerous national and international accolades for its exemplary therapies. The Ayurveda center is well-equipped with 24 treatment rooms, 2 yoga studios, a beauty salon, a dental practice, and a medicine shop. A team of 10 experienced doctors and 50 therapists is ready to provide guidance and personalized treatments. Upon arrival, your program commences with an intake consultation, during which the Ayurveda doctor assesses your dosha type and devises a tailored treatment plan. Throughout your stay, efforts are made to ensure continuity, with the same therapist or masseur attending to you whenever possible.

What’s on the Menu

The culinary experience at Somatheeram Ayurveda Village is rooted in Ayurvedic principles and reflects the traditional flavors of Kerala. Emphasizing staples like rice, curries, coconut, and an array of vegetables and herbs, the restaurant presents an extensive buffet. Each Ayurvedic dish is thoughtfully labeled, allowing guests to select those suitable for their dosha type and create customized meals. The restaurant offers an impressive selection of over 250 vegetarian dishes, salads, and juices. For guests not enrolled in an Ayurveda program, the option to order from the a la carte menu is available at an additional cost.

Good to know

The monsoon period, between June and September, is particularly suitable for an Ayurveda retreat.
If you’d like to book an excursion, it is advisable to stay for longer than a week: during the first week, your body needs time to adjust and requires rest. An excursion would interrupt this.
The hotel does not have a private beach, though a small section is reserved for the hotel. Locals can occasionally be seen walking around.
We do offer the Standard rooms, although they are smaller and darker inside.

Rooms

The 81 rooms are designed as individual cottages dotted around the garden. They are decorated in Keralan style, with bamboo, wood and other natural materials. Rooms are fitted with a desk, bed with mosquito net, fan, telephone, safe and bathroom with shower. Air-conditioning is included in all rooms.

Ik heb dit resort een paar dagen bezocht. Al met al was het een ontspannende en vredige ervaring. Het resort is een ayurveda-kliniek in traditionele resortstijl, het pand is geweldig, het personeel is erg behulpzaam en erg aardig. Als je rust en ontspanning nodig hebt is dit een echte aanrader.

Lovely cottages infront of the beach. There is no doubt that we will return back to this heaven. Quality of the ayurvedic treatment and yoga is excellent. The doctors and therapists are professionals. Restaurant people giving ayurvedic vegitarian food. Food is prepared as per the ayurvedic conditions. All in all it was the perfect therapy for my body and mind.

Ayurveda Rejuvenation

Laat ik beginnen met te zeggen dat ik deze plek online heb gevonden terwijl ik op zoek was naar een plek in Ayurvedische resortstijl met uitzicht. Het was precies zoals ik had verwacht naar aanleiding van de foto's. De locatie is mooi en ruimtelijk en het personeel is geweldig. Het uitzicht rondom de plaats is heel mooi en het schema voor de dagelijkse ayurvedische behandeling is flexibel. Dit is een plek die je in het echt moet zien om het te geloven!
