Benessere & Salute! Relaxing comes naturally in Italy: a land with a huge wellness tradition. When they think of Italy, most people think of archaeological gems from the Roman empire, Italian food with its explosive flavours or of the Italian master painters. But Italy’s heritage also encompasses ancient natural riches, such as healing hot water springs. It was around these springs that well known spa resorts such as Abano, Montegrotto and Ischia arose. The spa resorts developed specialised treatments using the unique fango or mud. But these aren’t the only regions worthy of a relaxing yoga, Ayurveda or wellness break.

The spa resorts developed specialised treatments using the unique fango or mud. But these aren’t the only regions worthy of a relaxing yoga, Ayurveda or wellness break. Take your wellness holiday at the most fantastic nature destinations, or close to major cities like Milan, Rome or Venice. Italy offers huge diversity when it comes to health and relaxation.
What does Italy have to offer? Here are some examples:
Nowadays, wellness is a broad term and encompasses much more than a massage or trip to the sauna. An hour of active exercise, reading an inspirational book and meditating as you gaze out onto sea also support wellbeing. Take a lesson from the Italians and surrender to the practice of dolce far niente – the art of doing nothing – in other words, enjoying whatever life brings; living in the moment.
All throughout Italy are well-known and less well-known terme with stunning spa resorts that have their own thermal springs. Puurenkuur offers fabulous wellness hotels, small-scale boutique gems and luxury hotels in northern, central and southern Italy alike, boasting mineral baths, sauna facilities and varied treatment and massage menus.
Italy is home to numerous mineral springs that are centuries old. Northern Italy features well known destinations such as the Euganean Hills, with Abano Terme and Montegrotto Terme. A little less known but just as charming are spa resorts and mineral springs in Tuscany, including Terme di Saturnia. Another region, Emilia-Romagna, has Levico Terme, Monteortone Terme and Bagno di Romagna. Whilst to the south – around the height of Naples – is the island of Ischia: a wonderful Fango resort in the crystal clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Here, you’ll also find thermal springs with a unique mineral water composition.
Given all of those natural springs, it isn’t surprising that Italy has a long tradition of Fango therapy. Fango combats inflammation and aids conditions affecting the joints. Fango (or mud) promotes good circulation, relaxes the muscles and relieves joint pain.
Puurenkuur offers modern wellness resorts and wellness hotels of a high standard in Italy. Many of those are adults-only, meaning that peace and quiet is guaranteed. The wellness and health hotels in our collection offer massages, acupuncture and all kinds of other holistic, eastern and western treatments, delivered to the highest standards. The Mediterranean climate and health-promoting effects of the sea – and all it brings with it, such as algae extracts, therapeutic clay and of course, the famous Fango – help to alleviate skin conditions, to name one example. All across Italy you’ll also find Agriturismo accommodation: small rural farmhouses that make the perfect setting for yoga, juice cleanses, Ayurveda and meditation breaks. In age-old villages that represent the heart and soul of Italy, find yourself surrounded by vineyards, orange and olive groves, far away from the tourist masses.
Italy is an ideal destination for a yoga retreat. It has all the ingredients required for a perfect holiday: a Mediterranean climate, stunning beaches, clear blue waters, delicious food and – not least – the warm hospitality of the people. Through a yoga retreat in Italy, you’ll get to fully relax, unwind and recharge with wonderful massages or other wellness treatments. Explore the stunning nature, enjoy the stillness and re-establish a sense of inner balance. The healthy and yummy Italian food provides all of the nutrients and energy you’ll need on your yoga retreat. Are you looking for a yoga retreat in Italy? Get inspired by the Puurenkuur collection!
Adults-only resorts are not open to children. These hotels or spas are specially designed for adults seeking peace and quiet, luxury and a relaxing wellness holiday. Such adults-only hotels are also ideal for solo travellers looking to enjoy some undisturbed me-time. Are you looking for an adults-only hotel in Italy? Get in touch!
The Italian word Fango translates as ‘mud’. The mud itself is a mixture of clay and organic matter, such as algae, which is heated by thermal waters from volcanic springs under the ground. This is also the reason behind the mud’s high mineral content. The Fango is unique to Italy, and the mineral composition differs per thermal spring. Fango combats inflammation and aids conditions affecting the joints. Fango promotes good circulation, relaxes the muscles and relieves joint pain. In a traditional Fango treatment, hot fango (approx. 38 – 42°C) is applied to the skin. The mud feels pleasant and is relaxing. It is rinsed off after 30 – 45 minutes, after which you get to enjoy a massage or take a dip in a thermal pool. Italy is the original home of Fango therapy. The vast number of thermal springs means you get to choose from various beautiful locations.
Northern Italy features well known destinations such as the Euganean Hills, with Abano Terme and Montegrotto Terme. A little less known but just as charming are spa resorts and mineral springs in Tuscany, including Terme di Saturnia. Lefay Resort & Spa Lago di Garda specialises in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Centuries old, this health philosophy addresses the root cause of ailments and disease instead of tackling the symptoms alone. In addition, the doctors and therapists draw on western knowledge, methods and medicines.
TCM is one of the oldest forms of medicine or medical science in the world. Despite its age, TCM has always acknowledged the role of stress. TCM considers stress to be the main cause of many illnesses. This makes TCM a particularly apt method for resolving modern-day stress-related issues and problems, such as tension, anxiety, sleep problems, digestive issues, obesity, etc. Examining these from a Chinese medicine perspective, they can be eliminated at the deepest level. And what better time for it than on a health holiday? You’ll stay at a luxury health or wellness resort, swathed in peace and quiet, relaxation and comfort. This gives you the time and space you need to focus on the treatment of your complaints and ailments. A Traditional Chinese Medicine wellness holiday will give your health a great boost.
