There are various types of Ayurveda programs, depending on health needs and goals. There are Ayurveda light programs for a week (Rasayana), intensive panchakarma (purification of body and mind) programs for a minimum of 2 weeks or medical Ayurveda programs (for the treatment of specific conditions or complaints). Medical Ayurveda require a longer stay. We also recommend repeat treatments and therapies.

We listed some of the most common types of Ayurveda programs

  • Panchakarma: A traditional Ayurvedic detoxification program that includes a series of therapies, such as massage, herbal remedies, and cleansing techniques to remove toxins from the body.
  • Ayurvedic diet and nutrition: Ayurveda offers guidelines on diet and nutrition, including specific foods and spices that are believed to balance the doshas.
  • Herbal remedies: Ayurvedic practitioners use a variety of herbal remedies to address specific health concerns.
  • Yoga and meditation: Yoga and meditation are integral parts of Ayurveda, and many Ayurvedic programs incorporate these practices to promote mental wellbeing.
  • Ayurvedic lifestyle counseling: Ayurvedic practitioners offer lifestyle counseling to help individuals make positive changes in their daily habits and routines, such as sleep patterns, exercise, and stress management.
  • Ayurvedic massage and bodywork: Ayurveda includes various massage and bodywork therapies, such as Abhyanga, Shirodhara, and Pinda Sweda.

Typical Ayurveda treatments

Ayurveda offers a wide range of treatments that are tailored to an individual's specific health needs and imbalances. In Ayurveda treatments, the therapists use a lot of warm oils with herbs that are rubbed pretty much all over the body. The herbs are absorbed into the skin through the oil. The specific treatments recommended will vary based on your health needs and imbalances, and should be customized by an experienced Ayurvedic doctor.

Yoga retreats in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a popular destination for yoga retreats. In Sri Lanka you’ll find different types of accommodation where yoga, meditation and other spiritual activities can be practised – from the basic to the luxurious. The accommodation will often encompass a dedicated yoga space and offer a peaceful oasis where you can fully relax and unwind. Yoga retreats are suitable for everyone, you don’t need experience. Nor do you need to be flexible. Flexibility is not the ultimate end in yoga, rather a welcome consequence.

Ayurveda along the western and southern coasts in Sri Lanka such as Weligama, Beruwala or Tangalle

Koggala is in southern Sri Lanka, some 130km from Colombo. The region is known thanks to its capital, Galle: a lively city that attracts many tourists each year. An area of the city is in the jungle. You can take fantastic boat trips on the Koggala lake. Fishing families live along the banks of this lake. On an island in the lake is a Buddhist monastery. The Koggala region is also a popular destination for Ayurveda cures and yoga retreats.

Round tour Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a diverse and safe country, with friendly locals making it a delightful place to explore. The island offers a wealth of attractions, all easily accessible. With its varied landscapes, from open plains and jungles to cloud forests and wetlands, Sri Lanka is like a vast nature park. Adventurous travelers can even hire a tuk-tuk to tour the island. There are several modes of transport available, with trains being particularly popular. If you choose to travel by train, it's wise to research the best seats and where to purchase tickets. About forty kilometers from the capital, Colombo, lies Negombo. This small town, once under Dutch rule about 150 years ago, features the historic Dutch Canal, built by the Dutch East India Company. Visitors can enjoy boat trips on the canal and explore a Dutch Fort. Kandy, one of Sri Lanka's largest cities, is surrounded by greenery and boasts a more temperate climate due to its higher elevation. It offers a glimpse into authentic Sri Lankan culture and serves as a convenient base for exploring the country in any direction. The southern region of Sri Lanka is home to numerous national parks. Located near the equator, the country is rich in unique flora and fauna, making a visit to these nature parks essential for any traveler.
