Slovenia, the ultimate wellness destination

December 20, 2019

Slovenia may not be front of mind when it comes to booking a wellness holiday. But watch this space: with dozens of healing thermal springs, hundreds of beautiful lakes and just under 50,000km of rivers, Slovenia represents the ultimate wellness destination. Plus, with all that water comes a lush green landscape - perfect for rejuvenation.

Thermana Park Laško

The modern resort of Thermana Park Laško sits bang in the middle of all this natural beauty, on the banks of the river Savinja close to the town of Laško. This area is renowned for its wonderful mineral water springs. The recent introduction of direct Transavia flights to Ljubljana make it easy for anyone who’s curious to check this destination out for themselves.

Best wellness spa award

Thermana Park Laško was voted best wellness spa in Slovenia. The hotel’s large wellness centre offers plenty of opportunities for relaxation, including numerous saunas (a Finnish, infrared, laconium and sanarium), steam rooms, whirlpool baths and relaxation areas. A nice little detail: every hour, you’ll pick up on a different scent permeating the sauna area; relaxing lavender, refreshing mint or stimulating citrus. If you’re in search of something a little more substantial, spa packages to meet your every need are on offer, whether it involves relaxation, detox or Ayurveda treatments. There are even a number of health packages created to treat back or leg pain under the supervision of a physiotherapist.

We love the anti-stress massage, which focuses on massaging the head, hands and feet. Not only does it serve to loosen the muscles, it also regulates circulation and balances the nervous system and organs. Beware of the side effects: leaves you sleeping like a baby at night.

More than just a wellnessresort

Thermana Park Laško is more than just a wellness resort. It also happens to be the best water park in the country, with indoor pools under the cover of a glass dome and outdoor pools with slides and views of the river. If you fancy something other than swimming in terms of exercise, there are aerobics, yoga and Pilates classes running throughout the day. Alternatively, you can head for the gym.

If it’s fresh air you’re after, the hilly surroundings are made for walking. Wander over the bridge and promenade, along the river to Laško town, or visit the old centre of Ljublana. This pleasant little capital won the 2016 Eco award, has restricted road traffic and is easy to explore on foot. The town is bursting with historical sites and excellent eateries. When you’re ready to rest your weary feet, settle down at one of the terraces along the river and laze the afternoon away under the sun, taking in the view. Slovenia and the Thermana Park Laško have firmly won a place in our hearts; a lovely hotel and a gorgeous country.
